When unexpected and unwelcome fear creeps in

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” -John 14:27
Life is filled with uncertainties and upsets. When bad things happen or disaster looms, fear often surfaces and seeks to pull us under. That’s what Evens in Haiti recently faced. Here’s his story:
“We are poor but lived in harmony. Recently my joy was tested when my daughter ran away and my brother became ill. My first reaction was panic, and then all that I had learned from your teaching began to flood my heart. Verse by verse God’s Word returned to my mind. I began to ask Him to give me the peace He promised when He left this earth. Eventually my daughter came home, but my brother is still sick. We are trusting in Jesus, the Prince of Peace, to get us through.”
As we pray for Evens’ family, let’s lift up all those on the Bible Bus facing unexpected and unwelcome fear:
Father, so many things trouble our hearts, and we often feel alone. Thank You that we can trust You with all our worries and fears and that Your Spirit will guide us back to You. Give us Your peace. Teach us to surrender our worries to You and trust You to lead us. In the precious name of Jesus we pray, amen.
