Sharing Joy in the Philippines Through Tagalog
January 14, 2025
“Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!” –Philippians 4:4 (NKJV)
Among the Tagalog-speaking communities in the Philippines, faith is a cornerstone of daily life. Yet many still struggle with material and spiritual poverty, longing for the hope and joy that only the gospel can provide. Today, we celebrate how God’s Word, shared in Tagalog, is transforming lives and bringing joy to individuals and families across the Philippines. This transformation is evident in the lives of those who are often overlooked, like the inmates at Iwahig Prison, where the gospel is bringing renewal and hope.
Tagalog is more than just a language; it’s a unifying thread that bridges families, friends, and faith communities. Spoken by over 22 million people, Tagalog serves as a vessel for Filipino identity and a powerful platform for sharing the gospel. Programs like THRU the BIBLE play a vital role in nurturing faith and spreading the message of hope to those in need. Through these broadcasts, even those in the most challenging circumstances, such as Ptr. Roy’s congregation, find guidance and encouragement.
A powerful story from Ptr. Roy Colendres at Iwahig Prison:
“Praise to the great and blessed God this morning. I want to give thanks to God in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Through your prayers, help, and concern for us prisoners, we were able to successfully accomplish water baptism yesterday. Eleven souls were born into the Kingdom of God. People with cases such as murder, rape, drug trafficking, and robbery—former criminals who brought great trouble to society—are now children of God. Before, they held guns, drugs, and other worldly things. Now, they hold the Bible.
I plead with you, please don’t give up on us in prayer and continue any support you can give. Many are being reached and helped. God bless you. This is your brother, co-worker, and fellow servant in Christ, Ptr. Roy Colendres. THANK YOU, Iwahig Prison Penal Farm, Palawan.”
Ptr. Roy’s story vividly demonstrates how Tagalog broadcasts connect Scripture to real-life struggles, offering both spiritual and practical transformation to those who need it most. To God be the glory!
Let’s rejoice in these testimonies and pray that God’s Word continues to spread joy and hope across the Philippines. May these stories of transformation continue to inspire and draw many more into the joy and hope found in Christ.
