Battling envy

A sound heart is life to the body, but envy is rottenness to the bones. -Proverbs 14:30
“Throughout my life I have struggled with envy. It destroyed many relationships and made me an angry person.”
That’s the beginning of a letter we received from Paloma as we travel on our knees praying for God’s Word as it goes out in Paraguay. Here’s more of her story:
“At the core, I was frustrated that my life was not what I wanted it to be and blamed others for it. I was miserable and knew I needed to change. Then I found your program. After listening to many, many programs my heart began to change. I began to focus on my relationship with God and began to be grateful for the many gifts He’s given me. Although I still struggle with comparing myself to others, I now have a place to turn. I ask for forgiveness and ask the Lord to give me a new vision of my life. This has given me much peace.”
Today thank God that He can set us free from our sin. Let’s pray today for all of us who struggle with envy.
Father, we desire to be as holy as You are. Set us free of the thoughts that consume our minds and which cause envy and jealousy to rise up in us. Remind us that in You we have everything we need. Substitute the negativity and cruelty within our hearts with Your peace and love, and gentle kindness. In the name of our Savior, Jesus, we pray, amen.
