Finding certainty about salvation

Can you know for certain you are saved and forever a child of God? That’s the question a listener wrestles with who joins us on the Bible Bus in Lesotho. Here’s his story:
“My life has been changed listening to your teaching. God’s Word offers so much to a sinner like me. I would like to grow deeper in my faith, especially in my belief in salvation. I desperately want eternal life, but I do not deserve it. Can you tell me if I’m really going to heaven? If not, what do I need to do?”
Well, thank God for this listener’s humble heart. The truth is none of us deserve God’s offer of salvation. And since the weight of it all falls on Him, we don’t have to doubt that we’re not good enough (we never could be). Thanks be to God for His grace to save and keep us. Praise God for His Word, too, that comforts us through God’s Spirit, who assures us we are His own.
