Praying for estranged families
August 01, 2024
With all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. -Ephesians 4:2-3
Family life can be just plain messy. The Bible is filled with accounts of severed relationships; perhaps you can relate. Verla, a fellow passenger on the Bible Bus, asks us to pray for her family. She writes:
“My husband was a pastor and has now gone home to be with Lord. I am lucky to have children, but my two adult sons are estranged from one another. Please pray for them and for our family.”
Verla isn’t alone. In fact, researchers estimate that about 27% of Americans 18 or older have cut off contact with a family member. That translates to at least 67 million people nationally. Let’s use Ephesians 4:2-3 as our guide to pray for those on the Bible Bus who face family pain:
Heavenly Father, You know all about family pain. We bring these problems to You with confidence that You know and love us. Please help us. We ask for reconciliation where there is discord. Give us a spirit of humility, gentleness, and unity within our families. Only You can bring forgiveness and restore our homes. In Jesus’ name, amen.
God has no grandchildren. Have you heard that before? Find out what it means tomorrow as we’re on our knees in Mexico.
