Freedom to Follow Christ in Vietnam

April 10, 2025

Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. – Galatians 5:1

Freedom in Christ is one of the most precious gifts of the gospel. Yet for many around the world, including believers in Vietnam, walking in that freedom comes at a cost—social pressure, isolation, or even persecution. Still, their faith grows strong, rooted in the truth that Jesus alone is enough.

In Vietnam, Christianity is a minority faith, and believers often practice in private. For listeners like Nai, who tune in faithfully to the Iu Mien language program, choosing Christ meant walking away from traditional cultural practices that once defined her. Her faith journey is a powerful reminder of the spiritual freedom found only in Jesus—a freedom worth every sacrifice.

Nai’s Story of Faith

“My name is Nai and I became a widow at a young age after my husband passed away from a serious illness, leaving me to raise three small children on my own. During that difficult time, I often listened to my neighbor’s radio. One day, I heard the speaker on the program speaking about God. He said that if I believed in God, I would no longer need to perform ritualistic ceremonies. I longed to be free from those rituals. Without a husband, whenever I visited a shaman for these ritualistic ceremonies, people would gossip and say I was looking for a new husband. This happened frequently, and I grew weary of it. That’s when I decided to turn to God.
Twenty years ago, I put my faith in Him and was baptized. At first, I understood very little about the Bible. I couldn’t read but I was able to listen. I remained faithful, never missing a Sunday service. I would walk 2 kilometers to church with my children, leaving home at 6 AM to arrive by 7:30 AM in time for worship. Over time, my two sons also came to believe in God. My daughter, however, married into a family who is not a Christian. Two years ago, I transitioned from listening to the radio to using my mobile phone to access programs. I now listen to all the TTB programs, which have helped me understand the Bible more deeply.”

Praise God for the spiritual freedom Nai has found in Christ and for the way THRU the BIBLE continues to build her faith! Her life testifies to the deep work of God’s Word in a place where following Jesus can be costly. We thank Him that technology is helping Nai stay connected to Scripture and grow stronger in her walk with the Lord.

Her story also challenges us. Are we walking in the freedom Christ has given us, or are we still held back by old patterns or cultural expectations? As you reflect today, ask the Lord to help you live boldly for Him—and join us in praying for more people in Vietnam to hear God’s truth and be set free.
