Seasoning our speech

September 29, 2023

Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. -Colossians 4:5-6

It’s hard to see our friends make bad decisions. How do you gently and kindly help them see how it’s hurting them? How do you support them without supporting their choices? That’s the struggle a listener in Cabo Verde faces. Here’s her story:

My friends have been taking the drug route, and many have already gone to prison and others have died. I am experiencing a great despair. I live with the anxiety of when to intervene and say something, and when to just quietly love them. Thank you for Your programs that help me find peace and reset. I try to keep my mind on God. Please pray I will have wisdom in talking with them.”

As you pray for this listener, pray for all of us who want to reflect God’s glory to those we care about. Let’s use Colossians 4:5-6 to get us started:

Father, thank You for the people You have placed in our lives to love. Help us be wise in what we say and do. Lead our conversations so they are full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that we may know how to care for them in their time of need. Help us to know when to intervene and when to walk away for our own good. Guide us in each interaction so they ultimately see You and turn to You. In the name of Jesus, amen.

There’s so much more to praise and pray about. Join us on Monday in Central America and the Caribbean.
